  • I admit I was a little intimidated at first about trying this eye shadow. I thought the instructions seemed complicated. But after viewing the instructional video on the Web site, I realized how easily the color transfers to the eyelid, sort of like a fake tattoo. It took me a couple of tries to find a look that I liked (Bronze Goddess), but I loved how bold and shimmery it looked, perfect for a night out. After setting with the powder, it was indeed crease-proof, which amazed me. I really like the wide variety of shades and styles ranging from neutral tones to zebra print and even camouflage. It invites experimentation, so it helps to have a good eye makeup remover on hand for quick changes.

  • Here's a product that's guaranteed fun at a girls' weekend. The rub-it-on application reminds me of temporary tattoos. And since a huge selection of eye shadows are included, this is a good way to test colors you might consider buying. Each card contains enough color that you could use it twice. Dial down the effect by using the soft gold, plum or pink shades; ramp things up by choosing camouflage or zebra, which are perfect if you're heading for an avant-garde club. I never am, so pass the subtle shades, please.

  • ColorOn instant makeup applicators are ... interesting. I don't wear a lot of eye shadow. I wear contacts, and most eye shadow flakes into my eyes and irritates. But, these did give me a fancy eye "look" with ease. I found them easy to use, and they didn't irritate my eyes. They'd be great for travel.

  • You know those women who always sport that perfect cosmetic counter clerk eye shadow look? We were all taught how to do it somewhere along the way: Light at the brow, darker in the edge and crease, and a sweep of color that coordinates with your outfit across the lid. Call me a beauty school dropout, but I've never found it easy to replicate. Until now. ColorOn eye shadow applicators are easy to press on and pull off, making you look like a makeup artist who knows exactly what to do with a four-color combo eye shadow compact. Only problem: Some of the color combinations are seriously tacky - zebra eyelids?! But hey, eye shadow delinquents can only be so picky, and there are a couple of color combinations that look really pretty.
